FAQ's
Q: Can I just hire scaffolding from you and erect it myself?
A: No. We only offer a 'hire & build' service.
Q: To what height can I build a scaffold without the need of a professional scaffolder?
A: Scaffolding with a height in excess of 5 meters requires to be erected and signed off by a qualified scaffolder. We do not recommend that un qualified individuals build scaffolds of any height.
Q: At what height do I need to use a harness?
A: Harnesses need to be used above 5 meters and the tunnelling method adopted for scaffolds to this height and where possible above this height.
Q: What type of scaffolding do you use?
A: We use all types but mainly Tube and Clip and systems Pro Scaf.
Q: Who is responsible for the scaffolding equipment on the site?
A: Once the scaffold is erected to the client’s satisfaction and signed off the responsibility for the equipment is the hirers. We do however check the scaffold safety daily.
Q: What is the height, width and length of each bay of the scaffolding?
A: This does depend on the use the structure is put to and the type of equipment used but as a guide for tube and clip. There is a maximum height to the first working platform of 3 meters and 1.8 to 2.0 meters between working platforms. Maximum bay width for non proprietary scaffolds is 1.575 meters. Maximum length for non propriety scaffolds is 2.4 meters.
Q: How is the scaffolding equipment quoted and charged.
A: If you do not hold an account with us then there are 3 elements to the charge; the erection of the scaffold, the hire for the time it’s up and the dismantling of the structure when you are finished.
Q: Safety
A: What will the scaffold be used for; it is important that you advise us of the use you intend to put the scaffolding to. The structure must be suitable in terms of width, length and height. We can then ensure you have the correct structure for your application.
What loads will be on each bay. From a safety perspective the bay loadings for building materials and workers need to be considered for all builds. As a gauge
Light Duty scaffold 225kgs per bay with a concentrated single load of 100kgs.
Medium Duty scaffold 450kgs per bay with a concentrated single load of 150kgs.
Heavy Duty scaffold 675kgs per bay with a concentrated single load of 200kgs.
Build location; we need to consider site hazards, environmental hazards and weather conditions particularly wind conditions around the vicinity of the build.
Ground conditions for support; the level, subsidence and density for support of the scaffold structures load.
Site access for the build; basically the nearer we can get to the job the less time and therefore cost to you our client.
The structures supporting the scaffolding e.g. the building the scaffold will be built against.
Safety of all who work around, near and on the scaffold.
Scaffold access; internal and external ladder access.
